The West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership and West Midlands Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is writing to ask for your support in promoting and completing an audit of the provision of sport and physical activity opportunities which is aimed at supporting young people who face disadvantage, may be vulnerable and at risk of exclusion or criminality / violence.

The national charity, StreetGames UK has been working across the country to undertake audits of provision, working through the network of Violence Reduction Units to reach local partners and individual providers. The results are then shared with local partners.

Over the course of the next month, StreetGames is auditing the West Midlands. It holds open a simple survey and encourages all local providers of community sport and physical activity to participate in completing it and also in forwarding the survey to any other similar provider, for the most complete picture of provision.

The survey seeks to capture the level of provision across the West Midlands, identifying which organisations exist, where they operate, what services/activities they provide, who they seek to involve and how they operate.

Every response to the survey helps StreetGames to collate and build a more detailed understanding of provision, with sessions captured centrally and geographically mapped, identifying areas of high provision and where there may be gaps. Such insight can then be overlaid with other analysis, such as areas of deprivation and wider determinants of youth violence and exploitation. By working with local partners (across the public, community and voluntary sectors) this work will seek to inform future service commissioning, delivery and evaluation.

Please complete the survey on behalf of your own organisation and if you can assist us in promoting the survey please forward to any other contacts/providers you may have. Please find the link to the survey which also contains a short briefing provided by StreetGames. If you have any further queries, please contact West Midlands VRP Sport & Violence Impact Manager, Glen White, [email protected]
