Our Free training will help you understand the causes of fuel poverty, and what you can do about it.

This training consists of five 1.5 hour Zoom sessions, spread over five consecutive Friday morning sessions. You need to attend all four dates, but only need to buy one ticket. When you have booked, you will receive the Zoom link.

Learning outcomes of this course:

  • signs and symptoms of fuel poverty
  • the health impacts of cold, damp homes
  • running costs of appliances
  • understanding energy bills
  • consumer rights - payment methods
  • consumer rights - debt and disconnection
  • consumer rights - what help is available to vulnerable people?
  • what can be done about condensation and dampness?
  • understanding heating systems and controls
  • lighting
  • understanding energy meters including ppms and smart meters
  • how heat is lost from home and the hierarchy
  • low-cost energy-saving actions
  • long term energy-saving actions
  • renewable energy measures


Attendees can also receive half an hour of mentoring after the training, on any energy-related problems they are helping a client or service user with.

This training will be delivered by Phil Beardmore, an associate of Saltley Community Association and fuel poverty expert. Funded by Birmingham City Council. The training will be delivered on Zoom. You will be sent the Zoom link.
