Volunteer Centre
"Volunteering is choosing to give some of your time and energy, without payment, for the benefit of the community and the individual".
Volunteering for Individuals
If you are looking to take up volunteering, the Birmingham Volunteer Centre can help you to find the right opportunity.
Nearly 350 local voluntary and community organisations offering volunteering are registered on our database. The type of voluntary work available is varied and includes:
- Befriending
- Administration/office work
- Play schemes
- Caring
- Campaign groups
- Youth work
- Conservation and environmental activities
- Hospitals
- Practical work – painting, driving, gardening
You could work with the young and not-so-young; local people or newcomers to Birmingham; parents and families; people with disabilities; people with poor health or people trying to make a new start in life. You may wish to work for a particular organisation or in a specific community – whatever you want to do, Birmingham Volunteer Centre will help you.
Since January 2005, over 1600 local people have contacted us. We can help you by sending you information or by talking to you on a one-to-one basis so you can discuss what you want to do in more detail.
If you are between 16 and 24 years old we are running a programme called "Millennium Volunteers B - Active". This programme offers young people an opportunity to volunteer in a placement of their choice or volunteer in a challenge team. The programme has been running since 1999. On average we recruit, support and place over 200 young volunteers every year; that's almost over 1000 since the programme began.
