BVSC Chief Executive visits Minister for Civil Society
Brian Carr this week visited Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society, in the Cabinet Office.
The visit, which took place on Monday 6 September, was part of a NAVCA (National Association of Voluntary and Community Action) delegation which included senior representatives from 8 Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) organisations across England.
The delegation spoke to Mr Hurd about the importance of VCS infrastructure in supporting communities and Big Society; their enthusiasm for more volunteering; more support for neighbourhood groups and more opportunities for local voluntary organisations to deliver local services.
At the Minister’s request, NAVCA will be working with government on a series of Big Society roadshows throughout the country which will join VCS and public sector practitioners to work together on developing the Big Society idea.
BVSC’s Chief Executive Brian Carr said: "I'm delighted that BVSC will be working closely with voluntary and community sector colleagues and central and local government on developing and sharing good practice ideas for developing the Big Society. Birmingham has a rich and unparalleled history of voluntary action, and a vibrant voluntary and community sector, so we have a lot to offer. Now, more than ever, we welcome the chance to work together with government in ensuring voluntary action is supported in delivering excellent services to our vulnerable communities during these difficult times."
