2009 Census Rehearsal – Your opportunity to help tomorrow take shape
The census is an estimate of all the people living in the UK. It takes place every 10 years and asks everyone the same questions on the same day to give a complete picture of the nation. This information is used to estimate the likely number of people and households in each area for the next 10 years.
Information collected in the 2011 Census will be used by central and local government to allocate funds, decide future policy and plan important local services such as transport, housing, health and schools.
In England and Wales the census is planned and carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
In order to ensure that the 2011 Census results are accurate, ONS have to be sure that all the processes and systems work. They can’t do this without testing, which the 2009 Census Rehearsal and small scale test will enable them to do.
The 2009 Census Rehearsal or small scale test will take place in your area in October 2009. This will generate a number of fixed term employment opportunities with a range of working patterns, many of which can be fitted around full-time employment or other commitments.
Various roles are available ranging from Area Managers and Census Coordinators who will organise, manage and motivate teams to Census Collectors and Special Enumerators who will visit households to encourage and help people to complete census questionnaires.
