Arts For Change
Citizens' Gallery
BVSC believes in the power of the arts to transform lives and to change society for the better. The Arts for Change Citizens’ Gallery champions the role of the arts in the voluntary and community sector. The work on show either explores a social theme or has been produced by amateur artists as a form of empowerment and self-expression.
Natural Selection
Natural Selection is an exhibition of contemporary artwork exploring aspects of creativity, disability and caring.

"The theme for Carers Week in 2008 was ‘Carers can’t afford to be ill’. This seemed like a good opportunity to link with the Creative Network Team for Arts & Health", says Laura Billing, the creator of the exhibition. "I wanted to find out how other carers maintain their own wellbeing, mental health and time out, using my digital camera, a brief survey and conversations at various Birmingham Carers events."
"Using selected images to tie in with carers’ responses I have tried to express their deep need to find ways of living with the stress, exhaustion and high emotions of long-term caring".
Natural Selection runs until 31 March 2010. It is open to the public weekdays between 9.00 and 5.00 pm at BVSC’s Arts for Change Citizens’ Gallery, 138 Digbeth, Birmingham B5 6DR.
Natural Selection is the last in a series of exhibitions made possible by an Awards for All funding grant.
