Arts for Change
Citizens' Gallery
BVSC believes in the power of the arts to transform lives and to change society for the better. The Arts for Change Citizens’ Gallery champions the role of the arts in the voluntary and community sector. The work on show either explores a social theme or has been produced by amateur artists as a form of empowerment and self-expression.
The latest artworks to be exhibited in the Citizens' Gallery have been produced by a group of novice students attending an art class given on a voluntary basis by Richard Flatley from the Sandwell Irish Community Association. The class consists of between five and eight people of mixed age, ethnic origin and artistic ability as well as those with long term health conditions such as diabetes and depression. They are taught how to paint Celtic symbols: knots, set patterns, spirals, mythical animals and Celtic letter characters.
The exhibition will be at BVSC, 138 Digbeth High Street (just beside the markets) until the beginning of September so please take a few minutes to go and view the work of the young people and show support for the project.
